Initially, the idea was to use the internet to compare how anonymous translators would translate the same legal text from American English into Hungarian. Interestingly, in spite of few contestants only, the project attracted observers (visitors) from many countries, and the domain name onlinetranslationworkshop.com was registered. In 2004, the site was moved from under netreprise.com to netreprisehosting.com, a hosting service and has been managed under it up till now. As to the content, OTW ran projects involving members in solving and suggesting terminology related tasks while it extended its base of solution provider partners in areas deemed to be of interest to the translators' community. Traffic statistics show that the vast majority of visits to OTW are made by US and Canadian visitors, Hungarians account for about 20-25% of the visits, while the rest includes EU countries as well as exotic locations such as the Seychelles Islands and so on. OTW mail list members can download from the mailgroup website free trial versions of some software that can be useful in their daily work on the computer, while a lot more free trials are available in the trialware store of netreprise.com.
